Everyone was talking about the whole selling of Soundcloud to Spotify, but that turned out to be nothing.
Spotify will no longer buy Soundcloud. Both platforms were in talks a few months ago, but the deal eventually fell by the wayside, according to the Techcrunch website.
According to a source close to the deal, Spotify will have backed down the decision to acquire Soundcloud as it has targeted 2017 as the year in which it will make its first public offering. "Spotify does not need a new headache in terms of licensing," the same source said.
Soundcloud, a platform that allows musicians themselves to upload their works, is still looking for a buyer. Spotify continues to rise: Last summer, it reached the mark of 40 million paid subscribers, well ahead of its main rival in the streaming market, Apple Music.
Who would say!
